Our recent shoot at Tuscan Oaks Estate in Dallas with Kaylin Elmore Photography took our breath away. Although it all looked fresh, sophisticated, and incredibly modern, there was something about it that was very, very reminiscent of the 1990s.
Maybe it’s nostalgia talking, but more and more we’re looking to the past for inspiration. There’s something so fresh and pure about the 1990s – a time that was free from lofty social media expectations and information overload – that feels like a welcome reprieve.
Inspired by our most recent shoot,
here’s how to create a modern 1990s inspired wedding in the year 2025.

Maximalism Meets Minimalism

Featured Accessory
Lilly Lace Wedding Veil
Although the 1990s were all about minimalism, there was something decidedly over-the-top about 1990s weddings. Weddings featured veils with major volume and wedding gowns featuring lots of fabric.
While trends and tastes change, there’s still a way to capture that 1990s maximalist elegance in a 2025 wedding. Style a high-neck, long sleeve lace wedding gown (like this one from Vivienne Atelier Dallas) with an heirloom lace cathedral length mantilla veil to create a bold wedding day look that is on the cutting edge of current trends.
When styled correctly, the result is a maximalist wedding day dream that will surpass your guest’s expectations and make for an unforgettable walk down the aisle.
Embrace Natural Beauty

Weddings are a time to celebrate your love story and embrace all the things that make you unique. When it come to your makeup, channel 1990s bridal style by opting for a natural, fresh-faced makeup look. Ditch anything too trendy that will look dated in a few years – like super-fake eyelashes or over-contoured cheeks – and opt instead for something more timeless.
Your hair is another place where you can embrace a more free, easy-going 1990s inspired wedding day aesthetic. If your hair is short, consider styling it into a perfectly coifed bob rather than opting for super-long, super-fake extensions. Consider embracing the natural texture of your hair rather than trying to look too polished.
Remember – the ultimate goal is to look like the most beautiful version of yourself (not an Instagram model) on your wedding day.
Go Tech Free

While it’s obviously impossible to completely disconnect every single guest, consider a tech-free wedding. It’s been a norm to encourage guests to put their phone down and let the professionals handle photography. Take it a step further by going old-school at your wedding reception. Place disposable cameras on your wedding tables – a very real trend in the 1990s and early 2000s - to encourage guests to capture memories that aren’t readily available at the push of a button.
We also suggest encouraging your guests to keep their cell phone usage at a minimum throughout the entire wedding day. Not only will it encourage guests to connect and have real-life conversations (!!) it will help everyone live in the moment and enjoy your wedding without worrying about what will make tomorrow’s Insta feed.
Shoot on Film

I’m simply in love with photography that uses actual film. A lot of the photographs from our newest ad campaign featured film – rather than digital – photography. When I saw these exquisite film photos from Kaylin Elmore Photography, I was blown away by how enchanting each and every picture was.
If I was getting married now, I would find a photographer committed to capturing at least some of my wedding photos on film. The result is a slightly grainy, less “perfect” photograph that captures the very real nature of the subjects. The atmosphere is simply unmatched, and there is a nostalgic, romantic quality about wedding photography on film that cannot be beat.
Unpolish Your Expectations

Although some brides today might not remember life before Social Media – many Millennials certainly do. Before Instagram and TikTok became a staple of our society, expectations were decidedly lower. Everyone was more worried about how they felt rather than how everything looked, which is an ethos that should be embraced on your wedding day.
It's ok to want everything to be perfect. But let go of some of your expectations about how something “should” look or what “trends” you want to incorporate into your wedding day. Instead, take the time to cherish the people that surround you and the important moment in your life that is happening in real time.
Your wedding is one of the only times all of the most important people in your life will be gathered in one place. And truly, there’s nothing more timeless than that.
